Mary Elizabeth Berry

Mary was born in Daysland on March 7th, 1928 to John and Elizabeth Wallis. Mary and her older brother Jack were raised in the Town of Daysland where Mary graduated from high school. After high school Mary started working at the Bank of Montreal in Daysland. In 1953, Mary married Maurice and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February. After their wedding, Mary and Maurice moved to Edmonton, where Mary continued to work at the Bank of Montreal. During their time in Edmonton, Mary and Maurice had six children, John, David, Douglas, Ross, Dean and Anne. John and David died in infancy. In 1962, Mary and Maurice went into partnership in the Corner Service, a service station, bulk fuel station and restaurant in Warburg. Mary worked many hours in the restaurant and was known for the home-baked pies and great food that she made. In 1974, Mary and Maurice moved to Camrose where she worked at Motor Vehicles and the Treasury Branch. She worked there until her retirement.

Mary loved to volunteer. She was involved with the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary where she was the treasurer and worked in the Gift Shop. Mary was also an active member of the Camrose Lioness Club for many years. Mary had many friends and loved to be with them. She loved to go to exercise classes and have coffee and lunches out. Mary enjoyed trying out new recipes, sewing, quilting and knitting and took great pleasure in making things for her grandchildren, Lindsay, Warren, Michelle and Stuart.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Maurice; her children Anne (Vince) Flynn of Camrose, Dean of Red Deer, Ross (Ron Roberts) of Toronto, Doug (Joyce) of Edmonton; four grandchildren Lindsay Flynn, Warren Berry, Michelle Flynn and Stuart Berry; and one brother, Jack Wallis of Camrose. Mary also leaves behind many friends and family.

Mary was predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth Wallis and sister-in-law Louise Wallis.

Mary passed away on April 25th 2013 at the St. Mary’s hospital at the age of 85. Mary lived a full life filled with family, friends and love.
